NiCad batteries often die in such a way that they won't take a charge and have zero voltage. It would cost you a lot of money to replace your old Polaroid battery with a new battery from the manufacturer.

I like the convenience of the item. It's nice to carry the charger and batteries without all the extra cords. The time to charge is a pain. I plan to replace them with the AA 1000-1800 Polariod Rechargeable batteries. These are rated to charge in 11-21 hours. This makes them more reasonable to take on a trip.
There is one potential downside. If you look at the illustration below you will see that I have circled (in white) the posts that the Polaroid battery snaps onto when you want to use battery power. In two of the three units I tested, this system worked fine. But on the third, the pins were slightly bent (received that way from the factory) and try as I might, I couldn’t get the battery to slide onto the pin. That particular light could only then be used with AC/DC power. This may simply be a case of a bad copy of the product making its way to me. But you should look closely at the design.
